On September 19,2016 Opera Announced the free VPN in Opera 40 in its blog. Opera mentioned on the blog post “Today, we launch Opera 40 with our new free, unlimited, no-log browser VPN service. With this launch, Opera becomes the first major browser to release a built-in VPN service.” Krystian Kolondra SVP Global Engineering, Opera, in a blog post, said “When turned on, the browser VPN creates a secure connection to one of Opera’s five server locations around the world. The VPN lets you choose where to appear on the internet, giving you online privacy and security a boost while making content easier to access.”

The free VPN is powered by Opera subsidiary SurfEasy. The free VPN uses a 256-bit AES encrypted connection and does not save your browsing history. Users will have a choice to select from five server location: Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, Singapore and United States. The company also introduced a mobile VPN service for both iOS and Android and it gives users five exit points, putting users in virtual form in countries like the US, Canada, Germany, Singapore and the Netherlands. Users who want to try the new free VPN from Opera can download the latest opera browser for their computers and then need to navigate Settings (Preferences for MAC) > Privacy & Security > Toggle on free VPN. Once you turned on the free VPN the icon labeled with “VPN” will appear to the left of the address bar click on it and activate it
